THE MIDWAY VETERANS OF NO RIGHT TO WIN:

ELMER L. JONES

Jones in 2004

Elmer Jones brings a unique perspective to the Roundtable, as a veteran of the ill-fated USS Hammann (DD-412), the destroyer torpedoed while tied up alongside the stricken Yorktown.  He is also a capable and prolific writer, which is evident from his masterful contribution to Chapter 9 in No Right to Win.  Elmer’s detailed accounting of the life of a destroyer sailor, from boot camp to his ship’s calamitous fate at the BOM is one of the book’s very best veteran stories.
