THE MIDWAY VETERANS OF NO RIGHT TO WIN:
CDR ROBERT A. SWAN, USNR-Retired
Left: Swan with his PBY5A at Midway, 1942. Right: Swan in 2005.
Ensign Robert Swan was a copilot and navigator aboard the PBY that first spotted the Japanese Midway invasion force on the morning of 3 June 1942. How that came about is one of the more unique and interesting stories to arise from the BOM, and like so many of them, it wasn’t portrayed quite accurately in most of the history books. Swan’s fascinating Midway tale starts Chapter 7 in No Right to Win.
