THE MIDWAY VETERANS OF NO RIGHT TO WIN:

MSGT WALTER C. GRIST, USMC-Retired

Left: Grist in the late 1940s.   Right: Grist as safety officer of the USS Hornet museum ship, Alameda.

Walt Grist joined the Roundtable in 2000 and quickly brought  aboard several additional Marine vets of the BOM.  He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Roundtable and especially of the Navy’s annual BOM commemoration in San Francisco, for which he served as the veterans coordinator from 1998 through 2004.  He also served as a volunteer aboard USS Hornet (CV-12), a museum ship in San Francisco Bay.  He was an aviation mechanic with VMSB-241 on Midway, and became an expert on both piston and jet engines during his 30-year career in the Corps.
